HELEN ELIZABETH SPLICHAL
Helen Elizabeth Knezacek was born on Oct. 19, 1905 in South Omaha, Nebr., and departed from this life on Sept. 27, 1933, at the age of 27 years, 11 months and 8 days.
At an early age she entered the St. Wenceslaus parochial schools of Omaha, and then finished her preliminary education at the Omaha Technical High School. At both schools she finished with very high honors. During her grade and high school careers, she was very much interested in extra-curricular activities, and during this time she became on of Omaha's most accomplished musicians (pianist).
After finishing a commercial course in college she entered the employ of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. of Omaha, in the secretarial department. She was a very faithful, trusted, and tireless worker, and very often received the appointment to a higher position. She finally accepted the secretaryship of the Employment Supervisor of the entire personnel of the entire Nebraska-North and South Dakota division of Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. She served in this capacity for 7 1/2 years and was then considered as secretary to the president of that company.
On July 1, 1931, she was united in marriage to Dr. Wm. F. Splichal of Omaha. After the marriage, the happy couple moved to Belleville, Kans., where the doctor established himself in the practice of medicine and surgery. During all this time Mrs. Splichal's cheerful and smiling personality and disposition served as a ray of sunshine with all whom she came in contact. She lived in Belleville only a comparatively short time, but during this time she won and enjoyed a very large acquaintance. She was a very faithful member of the Catholic Church and she was always very active in promoting the social life of the organization. During her early life in Omaha she served as president of the Sokol and Kenary Clubs, both Bohemian social organizations of the Wenceslaus church.
Her departure from this life leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband Dr. Wm. F. Splichal, of Belleville; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Knezacek Sr., of Omaha; a brother Chas. J. Knezacek, jr., of Omaha; one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Ostronic of Omaha; a brother, John J. Knezacek, of Chicago; her husband's immediate family; and a host of other relative and friends. A small infant daughter preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at St. Edward's in Belleville by Father Mckenna Friday morning; and the body was taken to Omaha with final services on Saturday morning at St. Wenceslaus church, followed by interment in St. Mary's Bohemian Cemetery of Omaha. A solemn requiem high mass was sung in Belleville by Father McKenna and in Omaha by a former schoolmate, Father Edward Chapuran.
