She did graduate work at Duke University, The University of North Carolina, and Appalachian State University, specializing in library science. She has been a schoolteacher and librarian forr 45 years in North Carolina andVirginial She is retired, (1980), and an active member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Washington County Retired Teachers Association, the AbingdonUnited Methodist Church and the Martha Washington College Alumnae Association.
