Charles Paxton "C. P." Stafford married Laura Jones on August 22, 1921, in Letcher County, KY. They had four children: Ople Stafford (died in infancy), Alvin Stafford, Mavis Stafford and Charles Praxton Stafford, Jr. After C. P. died, Laura married Bob Bush on May 21, 1928, in Blackey, Letcher County, KY. The children may have taken on the Bush surname as indicated by the 1930 Letcher County, KY and 1940 Letcher County, KY, censuses.

TWO MEN KILLED IN MINE ACCIDENT
C. P. Stafford and a man by name of Mullins were killed last Tuesday afternoon in a slate fall at the Blackey mine of the Consolidated Fuel company.
Stafford was a motorman and Mullins was his helper. Mullins was deeply cut through the body and Stafford was badly crushed. Stafford lived till 3 o'clock the next day, but Mullins died shortly after the accident.
Stafford's body was buried at Blackey Thursday. He leaves a wife and three small children. Mullins' body was taken to Jackson Tuesday afternoon. He was unmarried.
