Arietta May Shock Stafford, 93, Anderson, died June 28, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Oil City, Pa., one of eight children born to Sara L. (Tarr) and Charles H. Nichols. She entered the ministry of the Church of God in 1937 and was ordained by the Church of God in Indiana in 1948. She and her first husband, H.R. Shock, served many years as pastors in Ohio and Indiana. In 1990 she married D.C. Stafford and they served several Church of God congregations, the most recent being South Meridian Church of God in Anderson as Visitation Pastors.
Survivors include three children, Darlene (husband, Lowell) Wardlow, Darrell (wife, Ann) Shock and Drew (wife, Jackie) Shock; two stepchildren, Larry Stafford and Rod (Donna) Stafford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Nichols and John Nichols; a sister, Ruth Gilara; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. H.R. Shock in 1976; and her second husband, Rev. D.C. Stafford in 2007; and a stepson, Dr. Gil Stafford; and two brothers and two sisters.
