Orphaned at eleven years of age, Rose spent several years in the Norwalk Children's Home, being "loaned out" to perform domestic chores to local families until Harriet Peckham Francis opened her home, fostering Rose during several high school years until her marriage to Ernest Finlay in 1941. They lived in Evanston and in Chicago until 1951 when they moved to a farm in LaPorte County IN. After the death of her husband in 1976, Rose moved back to Norwalk, Ohio, where she lived until her death in 2008.
