With the winds beneath their wings and hand in hand with her guardian angel, Kathryn M. Hawks, 100, passed into the great beyond, paradise, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015.
She was the daughter of Thomas C. and Mary P. Batchaler Stafford, born west of Hayesville, the youngest of nine, on Feb. 28, 1914.
On Feb. 6, 1928, she was united in marriage to Cecil W. Hawks, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1978.
From this union two children were born, Clayton Hawks of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Marlene McKinley Newlon of Hayesville.
Kathryn had five grandchildren, Sally (Roger) Little, the late David (Julie) Hawks, Kenneth McKinley II, Kib McKinley (deceased) and Kathryn (Dale) Runkle; seven great-grandchildren, Mark and Melissa Little, Dewey (Carrie) Hawks, Daniel (Crystal) Hawks, Jennifer Hawks, Addie (Kyle) Shock and Kib Runkle; five great-great-grandchildren, Ian, Angel, Dalton and Donovan Hawks and Eva Little; along with seven living nieces and nephews. Her children and grandchildren were her whole existence.
Kathryn will always be remembered for her kindness, love in thought and deed, and in contentment knowing God was always near.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ashland. Her favorite song was "How Great Thou Art."
To her family, she will be missed but remembered as the "greatest granny" in the whole world.
Because of Kathryn's wishes, there will be no visitations or services. A private burial for family, officiated by the Rev. Paula Archdeacon, will be in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville.
