Robert J. Stafford
A memorial service will be held Sunday for Robert J. Stafford, 1213 Brentwood Drive, Reynolds. He died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 82.
Mr. Stafford was born Friday, Dec. 10, 1926, in Sharpsville to Clyde J. and Alice M. Keates Stafford.
The 1945 Mercer High School alumnus earned a degree in animal husbandry from Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Stafford served in the Army as a private E-2 in World War II and later served in the Army in the Korean conflict.
He worked as a mill clerk for 31 years with the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Stafford was of the Protestant faith.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds; and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 145, Greenville.
Mr. Stafford coached in Transfer Little League, was an avid fisherman and bowler, and enjoyed card playing and traveling.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Mary Louise Whitmore, whom he married Sept. 19, 1959, at home; a daughter, Michelle R. Good and her husband Bob, Greenville; three sons, Richard J. Stafford and his partner Gary Travis, Boonton, N.J.; John P. Stafford and his wife Sue, Argyle, Texas; and James A. Stafford and his wife Stacey, Hubbard; and two sisters, Clydora Fowler, Hermitage; and Mary Lou Freytag and her husband John, Largo, Fla.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Gina Wyant, Tony Stafford, Ben Good, Luke Good, Aaron Good, Allison Good, Rachel Good, Trent Stafford, Mackenzie Stafford and Logan Stafford; and five great-grandchildren, Gianna Wyant, Giovanni Wyant, William Good, Julia Good and Samuel Good.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
