DEATH OF MRS. DAVIS
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Stafford Passed Away Shortly After Midnight at the Home of Her Parents
Mrs. DeLeo Stafford Davis died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Stafford, 600 East Fifth street, this morning at 12:26 o'clock, after an Illness which had its inception over a year ago but which compelled her to take to her bed only recently. Aside from the parents, she leaves a brother, James P. Stafford, who is pursuing a course of study at Cornell university.
Mrs. Davis was born at Ellington 36 years ago and at a very early age gave manifestations of unusual musical ability. When only 13 years old she became organist of the M. E. church in the village of her birth and a few years later continued her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston; at Chicago under Prof. Eddy, and at Chautauqua under Prof. Flagler. With her parents she took up her residence in this city 15 years ago and at different periods has held the position of organist in the First M. E., the Independent Congregational and the First Congregational churches. She also taught music and up to the beginning of her last illness a class of young people was receiving the benefit of her instruction. Since the death of her husband, Frank W. Davis, she has made here home with her parents. She was a member of Auxiliary No. 24, Ladies of the Union Veteran legion, and of Chadakoin legion, N. P. L.
The funeral will be held from the First Congregational church parlors Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Dr. A. L. Smalley officiating, he being the pastor of the church of which she was a member at the time of her death and Rev. A. A. Horton of the Brooklyn Heights M. E. church, assisting as he was pastor of the M. E. church at Ellington at the time of her conversion.
