Velma M. Stafford
BANGOR - Velma M. Stafford, 94, of Essexville, Mich., formerly of Bangor, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at the Bay County Medical Care Facility, Essexville.
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, with the Rev. Charles and the Rev. Sandra McNary officiating. Burial will be in Arlinton Hill Cemetery, Bangor. Memorials may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church, Bangor.
Mrs. Stafford was born Dec. 20, 1906, in Arlington Township, Mich., the daughter of William George and Hattie Ruth (Martin) Cargo. She was a graduate of Bangor High School and held a life teaching certificate from Western Michigan University, graduating in 1927. After teaching two years at the Lee Township grade school, she married Thomas E. Stafford on June 7, 1929. He preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1961, at the age of 57.
Survivors include two sons - Charles (Beverly) Stafford of Mears, Mich. and Wesley (Dee) Stafford of Essexville; four grandsons - David, Dennis, Dwight and Douglas; two granddaughters - Amanda and Rebecca; and ten great-grandchildren.
