KNOOP, Evelyn Louise
Formerly of Kalamazoo
Age 82, died of complications from a stroke at Evergreen Vista Convalescent Center in Kirkland, Washington May 19, 2003. Born October 7, 1920 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she graduated from Central High School and worked in retail and as a secretary prior to her marriage. She married I. R. Stevens, Jr., in April 1941. He died in Germany in World War II, as an Infantry soldier, leaving Evelyn with two young daughters. She worked as a probate clerk at the Kalamazoo County Courthouse until she married Russell Knoop in 1951. Together they ran a series of family businesses and retired in 1978. Evelyn and Russell moved to Issaquah, Washington in 1993 to be closer to their daughter and her family. Evelyn was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a generous friend who will be greatly missed. Evelyn's hobbies and interests included playing cards, making delicious candy and cookies, bowling, and cheering on the Mariners baseball team. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; and her daughter, Colleen Tibbet. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Myrna and sons-in-law, Robert Champoux of Redmond, Washington, and Jim Tibbet of Canton, Connecticut; five grandchildren Christopher Champoux, Marc Champoux, Jennifer Champoux, Kimberly Conforti, and Korey Tibbet; and six great-grand-children. A service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held Saturday May 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church in Bellevue, Washington.
