STAFFORD, Ronald R. Sr., 67, of Richmond, Ky., husband of Jane Lou Stafford, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, in Richmond. Mr. Stafford was born in Pearisburg, Va. and was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Cree Stafford. He was a member of Red House United Methodist Church in Richmond, Ky. and had previously served as Official Board Member, Trustee, Finance Committee member, and chairman of the Pastor Parish Committee at the Middlesboro United Methodist Church in Middlesboro, Ky. He began his career in the leather industry at Leas & McVitty Tanning Company in Pearisburg, Va., and was transferred in 1969 to the Middlesboro, Ky. plant where he became the processing superintendent and technical leader. In 1984, he became the Plant Manager for the Sole Leather Division. In 1987, he accepted the plant superintendent's position with Howes Leather Company in Frank, W.Va. from which he retired in 1994. Mr. Stafford was a fourteen year veteran of the Pearisburg Volunteer Fire Department, serving the last eight years as Assistant Fire Chief. While living in Richmond, he was made an honorary Fire Chief of the Pearisburg Volunteer Fire Department for his exemplary service to the department. He was a former president of the Southwest Virginia Firemen's Association holding that position from 1966-67, also serving as a member of the board of directors for three years. In addition to being survived by his wife of forty-eight years, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy (Duane) Cornett of Richmond, Ky.; and a son, Ronald R. Stafford, Jr. of Lake Charles, La. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel and Christopher Cornett of Richmond, Ky. and Amanda, Jane Katherine, and Benjamin Stafford of Flat Rock, Mich. He leaves behind three brothers, C. Edward (Louise) Stafford of Pearisburg, Va., Teddy L. Stafford of Roanoke, Va., Donald M. (Cheryl) Stafford of Newport News, Va. He is also survived by a niece, four nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003, in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Knox and Rev. Charles Lockerby officiating, with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. Friends may call at the Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg, Va., Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
