Mary Elizabeth Stafford, 72, of the Celco Heights Area near Narrows, died Wednesday, February 19,1997, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Giles County, Va. on June 10, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Benton Wiley and Pearl Griner Williams. Surviving are her husband, John J. Stafford; a son, John W. Stafford of Ripplemead; two grandchildren, Lisa S. Martin of Narrows and Mike Stafford of Bland; one great-grandchild, Kelley Martin of Narrows; two sisters, Lucille W. Collins of Pembroke and Jo Mae W. Marshall of Narrows; two brothers, Rudolph Williams of Pearisburg and Douglas M. Williams, of Phoenix, Ariz. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
