Betty Virginia McCoy, 83, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sunday (May 7, 2006) at Bridgewater Home. Mrs. McCoy was born March 3, 1923, in Charlottesville, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Eula Poe Stafford.
She was a member of the West Side Baptist Church, was an aide on the handicap bus for 13 years for the city of Harrisonburg, and had worked at Metro Pants.
On Oct. 20, 1945, she married Richard Edward McCoy Sr., who died Dec. 11, 1983.
She is survived by two sons, Richard E. McCoy Jr. and wife, Janet (Newland), of Harrisonburg, and Robert L. McCoy and wife, Carolyn (Wright), of Waynesboro; a daughter, Debra McCoy Cason and husband, Dr. Alan Cason, of Bridgewater; a brother, William Kemper of Stafford; three sisters, Willa Jean Morris and husband, Amos, Patricia Perry and husband, Charles "Bud," all of Harrisonburg, and Johan Earman of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Mia McCoy Reffner and husband, Corey, of Everett, Pa., Richard "Bo" McCoy III and wife, Brandy, of Harrisonburg, Chad McCoy and wife, Donna, of Waynesboro, "Ginny" Cason Milton and husband, Luder, of Glen Valley, Alan "Scott" Cason II of Bridgewater; six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Karson Reffner, Avery McCoy, Whitney McCoy, and Cason and Abram Milton; several nieces and nephews; and a second mother to many people.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Sonny" Stafford.
The Rev. Charles Anderson will conduct the service at 11 a.m. today (May 9, 2006) at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at the East Lawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Bridgewater Nursing Home caregivers.
The family received friends Monday (May 7, 2006) at the funeral home.
