HQ BTRY, 4TH FIELD ARTILLERY BN
He was the son of Judge A Trammell and Lela Melvina Chambers of Kannapolis, North Carolina. His siblings were Virginia, Sadie Bell, Hellin, and Fred Trammell. He was married to Hilda Stafford, also of Kannapolis. Together, they had one son.
He entered the US Army in 1939. He served for 17 months in the South Pacific. He had volunteered to establish a scouting outpost in enemy territory, and slipped onto an island using a small boat, and was able to report intelligence regarding the Japanese movments. For this accomplishment, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
He died of jungle fever.
