  Rolland's lifetime occupation was carpenter and stairbuilder. He was the last child born to Rowland Nelson Stafford and Lucy Giffin, both of Ontario, Canada. Rolland and his 2nd wife, Julia Nancy Kolts, were married in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but relocated to Texas at the turn of the 20th century. In Texas, they raised two daughters and one son. Rolland also had a daughter and son from his 1st wife, Mary McEwin, of Canada.
