David Stafford, age 83, of Stafford, VA, passed away at Greenfield Assisted Living on Saturday, September 10, 2011.
He was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in establishing Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball in Woodbridge. He was an avid outdoorsman and a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by nine children, William Wright Stafford, Mooresville, NC, Timothy Vann Stafford, Chesapeake Beach, MD, Martha W. Burgess, Fredericksburg, David J. Stafford, Laporte, IN, Christi R. Hylton, Roanoke, Vincent Carlton Stafford, Stafford, Martin Francis Stafford, Stafford, Dale Patrick Stafford, Beckley, WV, and Georgia Leigh Milam, Round Hill; brother Glen Derwood Stafford of North Carolina; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances; son Mark Grant Stafford; grandson David E. Burgess Jr., and two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made in his name to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
Interment at Stafford Memorial Park followed Mass of Christian Burial offered at the St. Mary of The Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
The Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service in Stafford, assisted the family with the arrangements.
