JAMES S. STAFFORD
HAMPTON – James Spottswood Stafford, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 23, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
A native of Johnson City, Tenn., Mr. Stafford was a Peninsula resident 48 years and a member of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Hampton Exchange Club and served on the board of trustees for Crime Line.
Mr. Stafford was owner of J. S. Stafford Advertising for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Lee Brown Stafford; three daughters, Wanda Baker of San Jose, Calif., Sarah Lueking of Manassas, and Beth Nolan of Yorktown; one son, George Harold Stafford of Durham, N. C.; one sister, Emily Stafford of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, Frank Stafford and Julian Stafford, both of Johnson City; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Providence United Methodist Church, Grafton, by the Rev. David T. Forrest. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Salvation Army, 1033 Big Bethel Road, Hampton 23666.
