Portsmouth - Joan Eason Stafford, 76, went to be with her Lord on September 21, 2016, surrounded by family and loved ones.
She was born to the late John and Ruth Eason in New Bern, NC.
Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton "Jack" Stafford; son, Darryl Phelps; sisters, Carol Ullom and Elma Stanley.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, David Phelps and Danny Phelps and wife Chrystal; one daughter, Dana DuBois and husband Tom; one daughter-in-law DeeAnn Phelps, wife of Darryl; two brothers, John and Richard Eason; as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
Private burial will take place at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
