- Education: Colleges And Finishing Schools She received her education at
Martha Washington College in Virginia, Georgetown College in Kentucky, the
2 Curry college and School of Expression in Boston and also in a business
school. For many years sht taught expression and drama in Louisa,
Kentucky, and in colleges in Hollidaysburg, PA, inSan Marcus TX,and in
Marion, VA. Later she held positions in the Federal Civil Service in
Newark, New Jersey, in St. Louis, MO, in Indianapolis, IN and in
Washington, D. C. In 1954, she returned to Paintsville and restored the
home place which was made a State Landmark by the Kentucky Heritage
Commission in 1974, and entered on the National Register of istoric Places
in 1975. May was instrumental in getting the first public health unit
established in Johnson County, and in getting a Rockefeller Health Unit
placed in the County many years ago. The "pack horse library", to put
books in the hands of rural readers was one of her special projects. She
was always interested in public welfare work and was active in the Red
Cross. May was a member of the Delphian Society, the Harman Station
Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and other women's
organizations in Paintsville In 1978 she published her Reminiscences in a
booklet of twenty pages; in it she told about people and events that had
been a part of her lifelong experiences. May will always be remembered
for her fine dramatic readings, which she gave in nine states .......
