Ruth McManaway Stafford, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the age of 96. She was born in Elgood, West Virginia, to Giles and Sadie McManaway. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul McManaway; and husband of 69 years Hoge Tyler (H.T.) Stafford, Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Donald and wife Mary Jo of Daleville, Ronald and wife Diane Thurman of Roanoke and grandchildren, Don Stafford, Jr., Chris Stafford, Cathy Jo Stafford, Stacy Stafford Treadway and Heather Stafford and seven great-grandchildren.
Ruth and H.T. were original members of the Grand Squares and the Thrasher Square-Dancers Clubs. Ruth was also an original member of the West Virginia Women's Club made up of women from West Virginia who had moved to the Roanoke area.
Ruth loved to play cards and played canasta with a group of women twice monthly for over 50 years. She went to Vinton Senior Citizens Center to play Hand and Foot.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nottingham, Rev. Jeff Wilson, the staff at 1 West at Friendship Health and Rehab, Carilion Hospice, and all of her friends who were so faithful to her, and especially Bob Keniston for his compassion and loving care.
Ruth was a member a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church since 1952.
