Tollie L. Bowman, age 86, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C.
He was born in Alexander County June 6, 1919, the son of the late Jessie Troy Bowman and Ollie Elizabeth Frye Bowman.
He was a lifelong member of Friendship Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was employed as a carpenter supervisor for Shook Builders for thirty-eight years and Bumgarner Builders for two years. Mr. Bowman enjoyed farming and gardening and was known as an avid rabbit breeder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rita Lundy Bowman; maternal grandparents, Alonzo Frye and Lundy Lail Frye; paternal grandparents, Monroe and Emma Bowman; and great-grandmother, Jane Frye.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Sarah Vivian Stafford Bowman of Hickory; one daughter, Emily Bowman Icenhour and husband Carrel J. of Taylorsville; one son, Leonard Layfayette Bowman and wife Jeanette Bolick Bowman of Taylorsville; one grandchild, Dana Lynn Bowman Hughes of Maiden; four brothers, Dennis Monroe Bowman and wife Mary, Levi Samuel Bowman and wife Inez, and Samuel Eugene Bowman and wife Hilda, all of Taylorsville, and Vonteena Alvin Bowman and wife Cora Lee of Bethlehem; and a number of nieces and nephews.
