KNIGHTDALE - Rachel Teague Ward went to be with The Lord early Monday morning at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
She was born July 16, 1931 in Hickory, Catawba County, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Ernest Teague, son, Larry Stafford and sister, Jonelle T. Jett.
She was a graduate of Hickory High School, class of 1949 and attended Gaston College. She was a dedicated member of Compassionate Friends and devoted much of her life to assisting others through the grieving process. She was an active participant in the music programs of Springs Road Baptist Church, Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory and First Baptist Church in Gastonia. In recent years she has been a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh.
She is survived by her husband, Alvah H. Ward, Jr.; son Darrell and wife Amelia of Hickory; daughter-in-law, Juanita Stafford of Olney Mt.; grandchildren, Melanie, Benjamin and Bradley Stafford of Hickory; Crystal and Houston Stafford of Olney; nieces, Joanna Drummond, Harriott Kilpatrick and Julia Crew; and several grand nieces and grandnephews and several cousins of the Hickory area.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, September 12th at First Baptist Church, Salisbury Street, and Raleigh with the family receiving friends following the service in the church parlor. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Catawba Funerals & Cremations in Hickory at 2:30 pm on Friday, September 14th with internment to follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
