KERNERSVILLE - Clay Phipps Stafford, 90, joined his wife in Heaven on March 30, 2014. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Kernersville with Pastor Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. A native of Forsyth County, Clay was the son of the late Bertha Phipps and Charles Stafford. He was married to the late Etta Garris Stafford for 65 years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. He had worked until his retirement at Farmers Hardware. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He served his Country during WWII with the US Army Air Corp. He had volunteered for a number of years with Beeson Crossroads Fire Department. An avid gardener, Clay spent numerous hours nurturing his fruits and vegetables that he shared with anyone lucky enough to receive his gift. In addition to his wife and parents, he also was preceded in death by a sister Claris Worrell, and brother Charles Stafford. Survivors include his daughter Brenda Stafford Julian and Philip of Goldsboro; son Phil Stafford and Miriam of Kernersville; grandchildren Ashley Phillips and Matt of New Jersey, Drew Julian of Albemarle, Jennifer Julian of Columbia, MO, and Heather Stafford of Rutherfordton. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions are asked to be made to First Fruits Community Garden, c/o First Baptist Church of Kernersville, 401 Oakhurst Drive, Kernersville, NC, 27284.
