Vora Dell Pearman Stafford died at her home on Sunday, April 27, 2008, just 23 days past her 98th birthday.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 at Summerfield United Methodist Church, 2334 Scalesville Rd., Summerfield, NC.
Vora was born in Rockingham County to the late John and Holly Wilson Pearman. She was married in 1925 to Moses Simpson Stafford, who died in 1973. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Billie Stafford; brothers: Broadus Pearman, Bryant Pearman, Cecil Pearman and Johnny Pearman; sisters: Myrtle Lemons, Edna Westmoreland and Juanita Preston.
She is survived by her son Ronald Stafford and daughters Lois Pickard and Carolyn Ford; grandchildren: Toni Dugan (Bob), Terri Sherrill (Jerry), Melanie Howell (Steve), Jeffrey King (Lisa), Greg Rhodes, Christina Rhodes, great grandchildren Ivy Carruth, Jason Sherrill, Stephanie Howell, Erin Howell, Dylan Howell, and Raechel King; and one sister Geneva Moorefield. Vora loved her nieces and nephews, who loved her in turn and visited her often.
Vora loved her church family and was active in Summerfield United Methodist Church, where she accumulated a number of perfect attendance certificates, and, for many years, taught Sunday school and helped to organize and direct the annual Children's Bible School. As a member of the United Methodist Women, she is a former chairperson and worked with various projects, including Brunswick stews and annual bazaars. She was a faithful member of the Bible Sunday School Class. She also transported others to church over the years.
She exercised regularly, as long as she was able. She enjoyed swimming laps and walking. Born and raised on a farm, she exhibited her love of nature through her many blooming trees, shrubs, bulbs and plants. Vora was well known for her gracious hospitality and cooking ability.
"Miss Vora" worked for several years at Banner Pharmacy, where she managed the fountain, serving up many sandwiches and milk shakes over the years as she quipped one-liners with customers.
