SUMMERFIELD — Mrs. Dorothy Tant Stafford, 89, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Stafford's funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26, at Summerfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Kelley G. Groce and Pastor Dale Lawing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A Nash County native, Mrs. Stafford was born on December 7, 1918, the daughter of the late James and Katheryn Woodard Tant. She was a longtime member of Summerfield United Methodist Church, and retired from the Greensboro City Schools after a 33 year career in teaching. She loved teaching elementary school, traveling, and animals. However, her main concern in life was to serve and care for her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian K. "Duke" Stafford, who died on November 30, 2007.
Surviving are her sons, Buck Stafford and his wife, Shirley of Summerfield, Bill Stafford and his wife, Janet of Summerfield; daughter, Peggy Lawing and her husband, Dale of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Amanda Strom and her husband, Phil and James B. Stafford, II and his wife, Dotty; and one great grandchild, Timber Gray Stafford.
