  CHARLOTTE - Janie Swangim Stafford, 78, died Feb. 22, 2009, at Caromont (Gaston Memorial) Hospital in Gastonia. She was born Feb., 19, 1923, to John Pickens Swangim and Emma Blythe Swangim of Pisgah Forest. Mrs. Stafford was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer T. Stafford and infant son, Dennis; sisters, Sue Armstrong, Mae Armstrong and Myrtle Armstrong and brothers, Jim Swangim, Wilson Swangim, Bob Swangim and Edward Swangim. Aunt Janie is survived by nieces, Joyce Stephenson of Charlotte and Doris Elliott of Gastonia; nephews, Louis Armstrong of Asheboro, Larry Armstrong of Charlotte and Raymond Armstrong of Sherrills Ford,; and a number of great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
