Ruby Stafford Whedbee, 90, of Elizabeth City, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017. A native of Pasquotank County, she was born January 4, 1927 to the late Charlie Wesley Stafford and Ruth White Stafford and was the widow of Luther Leroy Whedbee, Sr. She was a member of First Christian Church and for many years a caregiver who sat with needy and ill in the community. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was cherished by her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Cherry Fields and husband Ervin of Roxboro, NC; three sons, Jerry G. Creamer and wife Tiny of Virginia Beach, VA, Luther L. Whedbee, Jr. and wife Diane and Charles E. Whedbee and wife Christy all of Elizabeth City; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Plumlee and a brother, Fay Stafford.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at New Hollywood Cemetery officiated by Pastor Kelly Lacy. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home.
