S.L. STAFFORD, 49,
TAKES OWN LIFE
Body of Virgil Man Found by Mem-ber of His Family
Seral La Verne Stafford, 49, of Virgil took his life by hanging this morning, according to an announcement from the sheriff's office here.
Stafford, it was learned today, had been despondent for some time and was discovered by a member of the family this morning. Coroner D. B. Glezen has not, as yet, returned a verdict.
He was born March 1, 1897 in Cortlandville, the son of Clarence and Anna Eaton Stafford.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Foster Stafford; his mother; four sisters, Mrs. Bert Trim of Virgil; Mrs. Leonard Wilcox of Moravia, Mrs. Clayton Randall of Cortland, and Mrs. Robert Redfield also of Cortland; four brothers, Leslie Stafford of Homer, Harold Stafford of East Homer, Howard Stafford of the Kinney Gulf road and Charles Stafford of Virgil; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Beard Memorial Home. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:30 to 8:30. Interment will be in the Cortland Rural Cemetery.-Cortland Standard, 6 Aug 1946
