HORNELL - Mariella "Mur" Edith Lajoie, 87, of 7553 Doorley Road, Hornell, died early Saturday morning (Feb. 24, 2007) at her home following a long illness.
Born in Holyoke, Mass., Nov. 2, 1919, she was the daughter of Herman and Ella (Bile) Stafford.
Mur grew up in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School. She has resided in the Hornell area for about 45 years.
Throughout the years Mariella worked as a secretarial administrator for several companies, including Sibley's of Rochester, Bennet Insurance of Hornell and Isaman Chrysler Auto Sales of Hornell. She had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cohocton and served as election voting inspector for the Village of Arkport.
Mur enjoyed baking, canning, reading, flower gardening and making a happy home for her family and friends. She leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to her family and to all the hearts that she has touched.
She was married Aug. 9, 1940, to Francis A. "Frank" Lajoie, who died Sept. 5, 2004, following 64 years of marriage.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Mason Stafford and Lou Stafford.
Surviving are her children, Donna Polizzi, of Georgia, Dennis (Marilyn) Lajoie, of Canada, Diane Hare, of Florida, and Duane Lajoie, of Hornell; two sisters, Phyllis Blair, of Elmira, and Virginia Sligo, of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mariella's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell.
Mariella's family wishes to gratefully thank all of the doctors, nurses, ambulance crews and especially her many hospice workers for their loving care and friendship shown during her illness.
