Edward C. Zirwes, 65, of 215 Port Watson St., died Sunday at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. He had been a Cortland resident for the past 25 years.
Born Feb. 12, 1898, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William and Agnes Marie Chadwick Zirwes.
Mr. Zirwes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cortland, Harmony Lodge, 52, F&AM, Philadelphia; Kalurah Temple, Binghamton; Jester's Court, 61, Binghamton; oriental Band of Kalurah Temple, Binghamton; and member and Secretary - treasurer of the Cortland County Shrine Club.
Having retired last year, Mr. Zirwes was formerly Manager of the Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. of Cortland for many years and proprietor of Champion Lumber and Woods Products Company of Tully, until his retirement.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie B. Zirwe; a son, Robert C. Zirwes of Cortland; a stepson, James Stafford of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Florence A. Suess of Lanham, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
