  Dexter A. Stafford, 84, of Beekmantown, died at the Johnson Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, Saturday. Mr. Stafford was a lifelong resident of the Clinton County. He was born in the Town of Plattsburgh on Feb 1, 1862, a son of George C. and Maria (Baker) Stafford.  A staunch Republican, Mr. Stafford had been a member of the Clinton County Republican Committee for more than half a century, having been elected to the committee in 1892. During most of the years, and until the time of his death, he was secretary of the committee. He became active in politics shortly after the turn of the century. From 1913-1916, he was his town’s representative on the Board of Supervisors, resigning in 1916 to accept appointment as commissioner of elections, a position that he filled efficiently for the past 29 years. Mr. Stafford is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. C.C. Peters of Beekmantown; one son, Col. David A. Stafford, USMC, serving in the South Pacific; one sister, Mrs. J.R. McDowell of Plattsburgh; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Stafford of Washington. Mr. Stafford was a member of the West Plattsburgh Wesleyan Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at his home.
