According to Kathleen Lenski, his daughter, Vladimir Lenski's birth name was Robert Saunders. He was of English origin, not Russian as the name Lenski suggests. He took that name because he thought it more appropriate for a professional violinist to have a foreign name. He went so far as to have a new birth certificate made with the Vladimir Lenski name on it. His parents disowned him because they did not think a violinist's profession was a worthy one. He was a concert violinist and teacher. He taught Charlotte Stafford for many years, who later became his wife. He was 25 years older than Charlotte, and their marriage was considered a scandal at the time. He died of a heart attack August 26, 1953 while giving a violin lesson to one of his students. Kathleen was 7 years old when he died. At the time of his death, he was survived by a son, Josef L. Lenski, 25, and a sister, Mrs. Jessielee McWhinney and two grandchildren, in addition to Charlotte, his second wife, and Kathleen. His Social Security number was 556-46-1461. His Mother's maiden name was Richardson.
