Gordon N. Stafford, 78, of Island Pond, VT passed away on September 25, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 19, 1938 in Island Pond to Leon and Mary (O’Gorman) Stafford. On November 20, 1965 he married Mary A. Miclette who survives him.
Mr. Stafford entered the United States Marines and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his lifetime he was employed by the Canadian National Railroad as a welder.
He held memberships with the Order of the Masonic Lodge # 44 of Island Pond, American Legion Post 80, and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond. He was president of the Republican Party in Island Pond, State Representative for 14 years, NRA, Knights of Columbus, and a state champion on the all army pistol team for the Vermont National Guard. His hobbies included motor cycles, hunting, shooting, and he was a member of the civil war round table. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Mary Stafford of Island Pond, VT, by his children: Timothy Stafford of Waitsfield, VT, Paul Stafford and his wife Paula of Berlin, VT, and Sharon Stafford of Highgate, VT, by his grandchildren: Tristan, Sage, Jack, Jake and John. He is also survived by his twin brother Gregory Stafford of Island, VT, and by his sisters: Jane Othot and her husband Richard, and Joan Stafford.
