Richard "Glen" Stafford
AGE: 84 • Spring Lake
Richard G. Stafford, of Spring Lake, NJ, affectionately known as Glen to all who knew and loved him, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Glen was born in Jersey City to Gertrude (nee Dolan) and Glendon Stafford. He was a proud United States Army veteran. In 1955, Glen married Mary Elizabeth Bergin and in 1962 the couple moved to Spring Lake and raised five children. His career as a Meat Department Manager spanned nearly fifty years, retiring from Foodtown in 1995. Glen & Mary had an active social life which included many years of Monday Night Football Club and gatherings with the Infamous Bridge Club. Glen was an avid reader and could often be found at North End beach or the Manasquan inlet with a good book. He was a devout member of St. Catharine's Church and a loyal Yankees, Giants and Notre Dame fan. Glen and Mary found a little slice of heaven in West Palm Beach and enjoyed twenty sunny winters of retirement there together. A devoted family man, nothing made Glen happier than spending time with his extended family; his presence will be sorely missed. Glen was predeceased by his son Matthew Bergin Stafford, his sister Ellen Jane Dunn and his son-in-law Jim Spillane. He is survived by his cherished wife of 59 years, Mary, and their children: K.C. Spillane of Spring Lake, Mary Beth and Larry White of Sea Girt, Gregory Stafford and Barbara Lutz of Shark River Hills, and Cambi and Jim Mannion of Brielle. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Shannon, Tara, Brian and Kerry Spillane; Matthew, Camille, Bridget and John White; Colin, Audrey, Kelly and Janie Mannion and his great-granddaughters, Celia and Margaux White. Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 4-8pm at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass will be offered on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11am at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to The Alexandra Rose Tozzi Foundation, PO Box 47, Spring Lake, NJ 07762.
