Mr. Richard A. Hooper, 87, formerly of Sarasota FL & Gilford, died at NH Veterans Home in Tilton on Dec. 19, 2012.
He was born in Concord on June 20, 1925, the son of Percy and Blanche (Stafford) Hooper. He graduated from Goffstown High School and attended Dean College in Franklin, MA.
Mr. Hooper served his country during World War II in the US Navy serving aboard the Lewis Hancock DD-675 Destroyer from June 1943 until Feb. 1946.
His parents (Percival Hooper) had a summer home at Varney Point in Gilford. He was a member of the Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Club and enjoyed the ocean, loved sailing and boating, swimming and fishing. He was an avid snow skier.
Mr. Hooper previously worked as a car salesman in Concord and was a Division Manager of Sears & Roebuck (sewing machine & vacuum cleaner division) on Elm St. in Manchester. He also resided in Sarasota, FL and worked as a maintenance man from 1971-1996 at Champion St. Trailer Park.
Returning to the Lakes Region in 2000, he resided in Belmont and in 2000s moved to Alton Bay.
Family members include his former wife, Lorraine Sirois Hooper of Manchester, a son, Dave A. Hooper of Ashland, a daughter, Diane Hooper of Manchester, granddaughter Crystal Hooper Lilliard (Rusty) of Norman, OK and great grandchild Brooklyn Hope Lilliard. He was predeceased by a ½ sister, Kathryn Smith III. Many thanks go out to all his professional care attendants and friends at the Veterans Home.
Funeral services will be at NH Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 10 am. Donations in memory of Mr. Hooper may be made to Liberty House, attn..: Bill Zarakatos, 75
