DOROTHY STAFFORD
(1920-2012)
Mrs. Dorothy Lucille Scott Stafford, age 92, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 13, 2012, in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was born July 13, 1920, in Rushville, Indiana, a daughter of the late Callie and Eva Ruckel Scott.
Dorothy had attended the Aills Christian Church since she was six years old. During that time she had served as church secretary, board secretary, and a Sunday School teacher. She had played the piano since she was 16 and was currently the piano player for the church. Dorothy worked at Marks Shoe Factory from 1939 to 1942, Dr. Clem J. Hill's office from 1954 to 1959 and the Lewis County Board of Education from 1959 to 1960. She also worked at the Citizens Deposit Bank from 1960 to 2005 and was presently a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, quilt piecing, cooking, baking, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ralph Stafford; one son, Donald Stafford; and one brother, Gene Scott.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ken Roten of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Rachel and Mike Edington of Vanceburg, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Karen Stafford of Vanceburg, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Kendall Roten, Carmaleta and Jerry Miller, Keith and Amber Roten, Michelle Himes and Kelly Nolen, Daneyl and George Carrington, and Jeanna and Billy Melton; 10 great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter; and one sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Jim Riggs of Lexington, Kentucky.
She also leaves many other family members, church family, and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Kentucky, with Brother John Cordle officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memory Gardens in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, and until the service hour at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.
Pallbearers will be Eric McCann, Keith Welch, Kevin Duff, and great grandsons Donnie Caudill, Luke Miller, and Kyle Roten. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren Shara Roten, Kaylee Carrington, Katelynn Nolen, Colton Carrington, Dorsey Roten, Aeryn Roten, Emily Melton, and great, great granddaughter, Adelie Caudill.
