  David Allen, the seventh of eight children in the family, has turned out to be one of the most elusive members of the family. He was born in Washington Township, Ripley County, Indiana to Joseph and Jane Stafford Allen. David does appear with the family in the census records for 1870 and 1880 in Ripley County, Indiana, but efforts to find him after that have been unproductive.
