Mary Jo McMinn Stafford
Mary Jo McMinn Stafford, 81, of Athens, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late James and Dema Moore McMinn and was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joe Stafford; four brothers, Tommy, Jim, Jerry and infant brother, James McMinn; and one granddaughter, Michelle Croft. She retired from the Tidy Office Cleaning Service and was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Riceville.
Survivors include seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Dema Tucker and her fiancé, William Koester Jr., both of Jasper, Ga., Patsy Huckabey and her husband, Bill, Linda Ballew and her husband, Doyle, and Jewel Cline and her husband, Eugene, all of Athens, JoAnne Morgan and her husband, James, of Decatur, and Christy Hatfield and her husband, J.C., of Madisonville, and Misty Hamilton of Etowah; two sons, Gaylon Earl Stafford of Wartburg, and William Finley Stafford of Athens; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-granddaughter; one brother and sister-in-law, E.L. McMinn and his wife, Anna Ruth, of Cleveland; one sister, Jane Smith of Athens; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine McMinn of Athens, and Gloria McMinn of Etowah; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Stafford of Cleveland, and Charlie Stafford and his wife, Martha, and Tommy Stafford and his wife, Gloria, all of Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Mae and her husband, Denzel, of Indiana, and Margie Stafford of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. James Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Hurn, Earl Peeler, Eric Brooks, Sam Mitteis, William Morgan and Jerry Morgan. An honorary pallbearer will be Keith McMinn.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A reception will follow at Pope Avenue Baptist Church, located at 301 Pope Street in Athens.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
