"Pete" Peter Philip Schuyler, Sr. died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Memphis, TN. He was born to Norine Sartor and Robert Raymond Schuyler in 1922.
A life-long Memphian, Pete graduated from Central High School, where he was an "All Memphis" football player. He received his electrical engineering degree from Louisiana State University. While at LSU he met and married his wife Freda Stafford, in 1946. Freda preceded him in death in 2002.
As a B 25 gunner, Pete was a decorated WW II Veteran, in the Army Air Force 310th Bombardment Group. His group served with the Royal Air Force during tours of duty in Europe, Egypt, and North Africa.
Upon returning home Pete served as Director of the Water Division of Memphis Light, Gas, and Water. After 37 years with the utility, he retired as vice-president of operations.
Pete was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church, and an avid golfer. He was a regular attendee at the Mullins Men's Prayer Breakfast. After his retirement he could often be found golfing with his brother and friends at Galloway and Audubon.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Raymond Schuyler.
He is survived by his three children Phil Schuyler (Erle) and Sue Ray (Bobby) of Memphis, and Rob Schuyler of Juno Beach, FL., and four grandchildren Ashley Schuyler, James Ray, Courtney Schuyler Vest (Robert), and Claire Ray Clark (Jason), and one great grandchild, Anderson Vest.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 p.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Mullins United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
