Samuel Ray Stafford
April 7, 1942 ~ January 15, 2018 (age 75)
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Chapel for Samuel Ray Stafford, 75, of Ballplay who passed away on January 15, 2018. Minister Gary McCurdy will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge of the services.
Sam was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was a member of the Lebanon Church of Christ. He loved his church family and enjoyed many happy years in fellowship with them. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany for 3 years. He had over 32 years of service at the Gadsden Steel Plant before it closed. He enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Ray Floyd. He loved gardening and sharing vegetables with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Mack Stafford and Cleo Faye Dollahite Stafford, infant brother; Gerald R. Stafford, sister; Wanda Stafford Willett, special uncle; Leo Dollahite, and special grandmother; Della Dollahite.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; Linda Tharsher Stafford, son; Harold Ray Stafford, sisters; Carolyn (Bobby) Finley, and Patricia Abbott, special cousin; Charles (Joyce) Dollahite, special niece; Sherri Padgett (Brian) Abney; brother-in-laws; Jimmy (Esther) Thrasher and Richard (Betty) Thrasher; sister-in-laws; Mary (Larry) Keener and Diane Thompson.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Layla Wren and staff, Kindred Hospice aids and nurses, our wonderful church family at Lebanon Church of Christ and especially thanks to Angela Hight for all her dedication to all of Sam’s needs at anytime day or night.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday night at the funeral home.
