Charles Calvin Stafford
March 28, 1925 - May 13, 2017
Charles Calvin Stafford, 92, of Groton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 13, 2017 at the Groton Regency.
He was born on March 28, 1925 in Cordova, Alabama the son of Samuel Mack and Mrytie Lee Stafford.
Mr. Stafford was married to the former Anna J. Morgan on August 22, 1946 in Gallant, Alabama.
Charles was a retired Navy veteran, retiring as a Chief Torpedoman; and had worked for 20 years at the Electric Boat Company in Groton, retiring as a Senior Planner.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his 2 daughters: Joy Buchanan of Groton, and Jean Windsor of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and 1 son Calvin Stafford of North Stonington, Ct. Mr. Stafford has 6 grandchildren, Laurie Boyle, Heather Stafford, Jon Prochaska, Scott Stafford, Justin Buchanan and Brandi Buchanan. He has 8 great grandchildren and a sister, Elizabeth Nunley and half-sister, Faye Whately.
He was predeceased by seven of his siblings: Five brothers, Mack Stafford, Marvin Stafford, James Stafford, George Stafford, and half-brother, Ed Whatley;
And also two of his sisters, Opal Battles and Ann Whatley.
Mr. Stafford was very active in his church life, and was a very faithful servant. His relationship with the Lord was of upmost importance to him. He served in many different capacities over the years. He and his wife opened their home for foster children, visiting missionaries, and acted as a host family for 6 Coast Guard Cadets from different countries, as well as many others that needed help or just family to spend time and fellowship with.
Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday May 17 at the Groton Heights Baptist Church, 72 Broad St, Groton 06340.
His burial with Military Honors will be held privately in the Starr Hill Cemetery in Groton; and there will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that any donations be directed to the Groton Heights Baptist Church in Mr. Stafford's name.
