Ira Thomas Adams was born on August 16, 1923 in Triune, Tennessee, the son of Hatton Robert Adams and Allie (McCanless) Adams.
He was raised on a farm with five brothers and sisters. Upon leaving the farm, he was trained as an English teacher at Abilene Christian College. After receiving a masters degree, he taught and coached at Issac Litton, Jere Baxter and Hillsboro high schools.
He was married about 1947 to Martha Louise Stafford (1923-2014).
Ira began building houses, which became a full-time vocation. Partnering with his wife, they developed subdivisions and built houses in Nashville, Brentwood and Franklin.
Although he had a very demanding occupation, Ira carved out time to minister to a host of small Churches of Christ in middle Tennessee by filling their pulpits on Sunday morning. Ira was the last of the "old time" home builders, but that tells little of his character. Ira was a kind and very generous man whether quietly encouraging with words or physical means, and he was a man of integrity.
Ira passed away on December 15, 2014 in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by his wife, he is survived by four married sons; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his youngest sister.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
