- Sam served during WW2 in the U.S. Army Air Corps, completing pilot
training near the end of the War. After returning to Ohio, he taught
aviation for some time at Ohio University. Later he worked at Gooding's
Market in Athens, OH until about 1953. During this time he trained
himself by correspondence course in radio/electronics. After a short
period with the Federal Aviation Administration at Cleveland Hopkins
Airport, Sam returned with his family to Jacksonville, Athens Co., OH,
where he worked for the Morrison Grocery while running a small business in
radio/TV repair and sales. In the early 1970s he took a position teaching
radio-electronics at the Tri-County Vocational High School in Nelsonville,
Athens Co., OH, from which he retired in 1988.
