• Notes

  He enlisted in the Union Army in Co. B., 85th Illinois Infantry on 4 Aug 1862. He was in several battles, and was with General Sherman on his famous march until the Battle of Peach Tree Creek on 19 Jul 1864. There he was taken prisoner and confined in Andersonville Prison from 21 Jul 1864 until 24 Mar 1865 when he was paroled. Stephen was living in 1881 when his father died, but nothing more is known about him.
