  Sister Prudence Stafford, wife of Bro. Edwin Stafford, was born in Penwortham, near Preston, Lancashire, England, March 3rd, 1828; immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1842; settled in New Hartford, Oneida county, New York, where she married Bro. E. Stafford October 21st, 1850; moved to Abingdon, Knox county, Illinois in 1857; heard the gospel preached by Zenos H. Gurley Sr. in 1861 in Henderson Grove, eighteen miles north of Abingdon; was baptized and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by him. she moved to what is now called Lamoni, Decatur county, Iowa in March 1875, and was received by certificate of membership, at that date, into the branch of the church there. She fell asleep in Jesus on the 5th of March 1890. The La grippe scourge, took hold of her, and being of delicate frame with weak lungs, and diseased heart, she expired after a few weeks confinement to her bed, aged 62 years and two days, experiencing severe suffering, which she bore with great patience. She desired to live to see all her children in the Church, but God had ordained otherwise. She leaves a husband, and six children sorrow stricken at their bereavement , to mourn their great earth loss. She was a loving and tender and affectionate wife, and an exemplary mother who secured the hearts best affections of her children, and was regarded as a kind neighbor. WE lay her to rest in peace, feeling assured that her spirit is in the Paradise of God, while we lay her casket, that contained the jewel in the silent tomb to wait the resurrection morn when there will be a reunion of body and spirit, to dwell with Christ on the earth in the great Millennial reign. The funeral services were conducted at the Saints Church, Lamoni, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m., March 6th, by Elder W.W. Blair, assisted by Elders James Whitehead and R. M. Elvin
