  Obituary from The Rutland Daily Globe Rutland, Vermont 4 Jul 1874, page 2. Sad Case of Drowning Tyler A. Hicks the well known and esteemed landlord of the "Glen House," Jacksonville, Vt., with two or three others went to the mill pond about eight o'clock last Sunday evening to bathe. Mr. Hicks took a young man by the name of Griffin upon his back and attempted to swim across the stream, but was seized with cramp or something similar and was drowned. Young Griffin had a narrow escape from the same fate, he being taken from the water in an unconscious condition. Mr. Hicks was interred with Masonic honors Tuesday evening.
