  Military: Enlisted in Co. K, 15th Michigan Infantry. Mustered out in Little Rock AR. Died: Drowned in Coldwater, MI. Buried: Find-A-Grave has published images of the memorial stone for John Wesley Stafford (son of Jonas and Amy [Slater] Stafford) in the Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood, Branch Co, MI. It reads: JOHN W. STAFFORD BORN Oct. 17, 1834 DIED Jan. 31, 1890 Co. K 15th Mich. Infantry This is of course different than the 1903 date that my grandparents had. The story is that he died after breaking through the ice while fishing.
