Died:
- I am interested in the ancestors of John Archibald Stafford. Is he the same as the John Arch Stafford identified in the court case "Draper, W. W. et al vs Martin, John et al (1907), Jackson Co., TN 1907?
This case was concerning the estate of Arch M Stafford who died intestate in Jackson Co., TN in 1905. The widow listed as Mary Stafford, wife of A.M. Stafford. The case identifies Arch M Stafford as the father of six children, with five living at the time of his death. They were:
"John Arch Stafford
Elisha Stafford
Narcissa Stafford, wife of Jno Martin
Mary Johnson, wife of R.E. Johnson
Tennessee Godsey, wife of Jas Godsey
Another daughter died several years ago and left a
daughter Frona Harrison"
According to this case, "A. M. Stafford died intestate in 1905, owned land 1st District of Jackson Co. bounded north by J. W. Stafford, south by John Martin and others, east by N. M. McCoin, west by Coleman, formerly the George G. Haile lands where A. M. Stafford lived at his death."
I think the unnamed daughter might be named Sarah Stafford. This Sarah Stafford married John N Haile in May 1873. John N Haile filed for divorce in Feb 1874. In that case, he named her father as Arch Stafford and her brother as John Stafford. John N Haile was granted a decree of Nullity of Marriage and the marriage was set aside when Sarah failed to appear.
"It appeared to satisfaction of Court that Sarah Stafford alias Sarah Haile... a non resident of the State of Tennessee... published in Jackson County News... defendant failed to appear the 4th Monday in April 1874... Complainant's bill taken for confessed... marriage as set forth... be and is a nullity... set aside.
If this is the same family, I am looking for information on daughter Mary Ann who married Reuben E. Johnson. Any help appreciated.
