Obituary for Anna Lucy Parkhurst Stafford
20 April, 1842 - 19 June, 1934
From The Caldwell News-Tribune,
dated 20 June, 1934
Contributed by Dennis McIndoo
Death Beckons
Valley Pioneer
__________
Mrs. Anna Stafford, Resident
Here Since 1881, Succumbs
Tuesday
With the death Tuesday afternoon of Mrs. Anna Stafford, widow of the late George D. Stafford, another early pioneer of the Boise Valley answered the call of her Maker. Mrs. Stafford has been a resident of the Caldwell community since her arrival here in 1881.
Mrs. Stafford was born at LaClair, Iowa, April 20, 1842. She and her husband with two other families left Wichita, Kas., May 13, 1881 for the west to make their homes. They made the trip in covered wagons, arriving in Boise Valley in late August the same year. In the fall of 1881 they settled on the Boise river just west of Caldwell. Up to the present time a part of the large acreage purchased by the pioneer Staffords is still owned by K. M. Stafford, a son of the deceased. Her husband, George Stafford, died several years ago. Of the three families who crossed the plains together Mrs. Stafford was the last remaining member. The other families went to Oregon to make their homes and have since passed on.
Surviving are two sons, L. V. Stafford of Boise and D. M. Stafford of Caldwell; four daughters, Mrs. Carrie McLaughlin, Caldwell; Mrs. Ida M. Collins, Nampa; Mrs. Jessie Tucker of Parma and Mrs. Mary Gahley of Parma; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the Sidney G. Tucker home in Ten Davis community. Dr. H. H. Hayman will officiate. Interment will be in the Canyon hill cemetery beside her husband.
Mrs. Stafford's death followed an illness of only a few days.
