Newton M. Stafford was born May 30, 1861, Conneaut Twp., Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, died February 20, 1900, Julesburg, Sedgewick Co., Colorado. The birth date you gave belongs to his second wife, Anne Wesche, she was born July 1, 1865 in St. Louis Missouri. Newton is the son of George W. Stafford. This family goes back to Thomas Stafford, b. abt 1605. I believe I sent this information to you sometime back.
The census you gave - 1900 in St. Louis Co., Missouri actually reads like this:
1900 Census, State of Missouri, City of St. Louis County, June 12, Arnold D. Bourvoisier, enumerator, supervisor's district #11, sheet no 9, Enumeration District No. 170, Ward 11, series T623, Microfilm 893, bk2, page 50, 3039 Minnesota Ave., (This is the St Joseph School for the deaf)
2206/ Stafford, Newton M. Mrs. head, WF b. July 1865, age 35, widow, married once, born Missouri, father born in Germany, mother born in Switzerland.
Stafford, John P. son, WM, Feb. 1899, b. Colorado, F-PA, M-MO
After the death of Newton, Anna and her son John returned to the St. Joseph School. The Wesche family also live on a farm near the school. She in effect returned to her family.
Newton was deaf as were both of his wives. He attended St. Joseph's school for the deaf, Anna also attended the school and I assume that Nannie S. Fly also attended there.
I did not have the name of his first wife, so your post opened a door for me. We learned of the first wife from Newton's obituary. Her name was not mentioned, and indicated that they had been married 4 years. No children were mentioned from that marriage.
John P. Stafford is my husbands father.
